Here are some basic terms to help you better understand the language that may be used in your yoga class
Asana- posture or positioning of the body.
Mantra- a repeated sound or phrase used in meditation.
Meditation- a practice used to draw the mind to a central focus.
Mudra- a symbolic hand placement or gesture used with the hands as well as the body during asana practice.
Namaste-"I honor the Spirit in you which is also in me." Often said by the teacher at the end of practice and reciprocated by student.
Om- the sound of the universe. A mantra that represents divine consciousness.
Pranayama- the life force held within. Literally means to control or regulation of one’s breath.
Yoga- means “to yoke” or unity through movement or asana. Often uniting breath, movement, and consciousness together as one.

YOGA ETIQUETTE
•Please Arrive 10-15 minutes early before class begins. This prepares you for class by setting up and quieting yourself. Late arrival disrupts the entire class, please avoid doing so.
•Be sure to notify your instructor of any injuries, health or physical conditions you may be experiencing prior to class.
•Wear comfortable clothing, that does not bind and allows you to move easily.
•Please shower before class and avoid wearing perfumes.
•Eat a light meal at least an hour before class, avoid any heavy foods.
•Leave your shoes and outside belongings inside the locker room. Lock any valuables in a locker or keep them on your person, you are responsible for your key and locker for the duration of class.
•Please be mindful of the studio space. Pick up your area after class is over and neatly put away any props or mats you may have borrowed from the studio.
•Turn off your cell phone before class begins.
•Bring your own mat if one is available to you, this makes for a sanitary practice. However, mats are available to borrow if needed.
•If you bring your own mat, please be sure to take it home with you. Any mats left behind will be cleaned and placed on the shelf for community use.
•If you borrow one of our mats, please be sure to use the designated cleaner and washcloths to sanitize the mat before placing it back on the shelf.
•Although you may bring water or tea into the studio, please refrain from bringing food into the space.
•To ensure your own safety and enjoyment of the class, please notify the instructor if something does not feel right during class. We are happy to help suggest modifications to make your practice a safe and joyful one.
